Harrisburg R-VIII School Board Report
January 11, 2010
Under Correspondence, Mrs. Proctor shared a letter from Missouri’s Department of Elementary and Secondary Education indicating the district has earned the 2009 annual Distinction in Performance award. This award recognizes districts for demonstrating consistent improvement or high achievement on the Missouri School Improvement Program performance standards.
Consent agenda items were approved and included approval of minutes and payment of bills.
Projects identified by the facility review conducted by Tom Wells, Structural Engineer were prioritized. The drainage issues at the South Campus will be addressed as soon as the weather breaks. The roof decking repairs at the North Campus will be done after school is dismissed for the summer. All other items will be taken care of over the course of the next two years. Cost estimates are currently being sought for each of the projects.
The Board decided to re-seek performance bids for the HVAC, window repairs, electrical upgrades and lighting upgrades as identified prior to the recent passage of the bond issue. The District will also be seeking individual bids for a phone system, fiber upgrades, and roof replacement for the 2nd – 4th grade building.
The Board approved a request from the Harrisburg Fellowship of Christian Athletes organization to be represented in the yearbook.
The District will no longer be assisting with the elementary basketball program after this year. It is hoped that a youth basketball program (much like the Harrisburg Youth Football League and the Harrisburg Youth Diamond League) will be established to support the interest of local youth. The District would be willing to work with such an organization to develop a facility-use agreement much like it has with HYFL and HYDL.
Board member email addresses will be posted on the District website in the near future.
