All about Mrs. Wilcox

I am beginning my 20th year of teaching and my 18th year at Harrisburg.  I have taught 3rd grade, 5th grade, and 6th grade.  I have been in my current position of fifth grade for two years.
I am married to Greg and we have two children, Justin and Jessy.  Greg is a contractor and works in Columbia.  Justin will begin his 2nd year at MU in the fall 06.  Jessy will be a sophomore at HHS.
I grew up in and graduated from the  Potosi R-3 School Systems  in Potosi, MO.  I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia.  I have also  attained a Master's of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction from MU.  I am currently taking other  college courses to further my education.

In my spare time I enjoy being with my family.  I also love the challenge of cardmaking and scrapbooking.  I collect and sell Longaberger baskets.  I enjoy watching all sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals.
My teaching style is one that is structured but creative.  I implement Reading and Language Arts using the Four Blocks Method, and other resources.  Writing will be done everyday.  Math, Social Studies and Science are accomplished with textbooks and projects incorporated into the program.  A unit featuring the states and their capital will be covered in the second semester.  Subject matter in all curriculum areas  is driven by the Grade Level Expectations provided by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education,  the Missouri Assessment Plan, and the school district.
