Update April 15, 2020

Harrisburg Families,

I hope everyone is doing well and is safe, happy and healthy. I have a couple of announcements regarding events at Harrisburg RVIII School District.

  • Graduation has been postponed, our plan is to have a full graduation ceremony.  We are scheduling two dates with the hopes of making the earlier date work, and have a backup date later in the Summer.  The first date is Sunday, June 28th, at 2 pm. The alternative date will be Sunday, July 26th at 2 pm. I know this may be difficult to work around, but our seniors deserve their day in the sun.
  • Summer School:  A decision will be made in the coming weeks. The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is discussing a plan and working on sharing guidance for all the districts in the state.  The options on the table include the possibility of a July or even an August date. We also have to consider not having a summer school, due to potential health risks. I will keep everyone posted as information is available.
  • Personal items:  We are working on a plan to allow students to pick up their personal effects. It would be irresponsible of the district to allow students in the building in conjunction with the stay at home order.  There will be an opportunity to collect items at some point. Elementary items are being secured in your child’s lockers as we clean for the summer.
  • Miscellaneous Items:  Prom: The committee is working on a date and the plan is, if conditions allow, to be held sometime this summer.  Purchased Items to be picked up: (yearbooks, sweatshirts, tracksuits, etc), as the restrictions from the governor and health department ease up we will make plans to distribute these items.  Anything you paid for you will receive or you will get your money back. St. Louis Cardinals tickets are still in negotiations and their situation is very fluid.  Lunch balances that are positive we will roll into next year’s accounts unless you are a Senior. In that case, we will be issuing a check and mailing it home.

This is a difficult time for everyone, if you need help don’t be afraid to ask, you can contact the admin office at 573-875-5604.  I miss the day to day bustling of school, the kids, the staff, and the events that normal life brings to our corner of the world. Stay safe, and reach out if you need anything.
