Students in Dr. Weather’s Spanish 2 classes spent January and February creating original Spanish language films with English subtitles. Students wrote original scripts, created film storyboards, used videography skills to film scenes, and then completed their films in post production with sound effects, music, and rolling credits. Student films were submitted to the 2024 University of Central Missouri Foreign Language Film Festival. Yesterday students traveled to UCM for the Festival which featured student films in Spanish, German, French, and Chinese from Missouri and Kansas schools. Our students spent the morning viewing films and then attended the awards ceremony. Harrisburg returned home with feedback from the festival judges on their films and two awards. Malas Maestras (Bad Teachers) received third place in the Elementary Spanish Comedy category and M.I.A. received third place in the Elementary Spanish Mystery category. You can see all nine of the 2024 films created by Harrisburg students at MUSART on April 24. #BulldawgPride

Students in Mrs. Monroe’s Pre-K class visited Mrs. Ayer’s high school science classroom this morning to learn about some of the animals that live in her classroom. Students got to meet Curly the tarantula. They learned that Curly likes to eat a special kind of cockroach. They also got to meet a Brazilian Black tarantula named Mr. T who blends into his environment using camouflage. Students inspected the colony of cockroaches that live in the classroom and discussed how some animals are food sources for other animals. Students also got to meet Mrs. Ayer’s class pet Liz who is a bearded dragon. They learned about the different kinds of lights that Liz needs to live in his home in the classroom and everyone got to pet Liz and use a descriptive word for how he felt. Some popular descriptions were “rough”, “scaly”, and “scratchy”. #BulldawgPride

Tonight Harrisburg was well represented at the Boone Electric Cooperative Youth Tour and CYCLE Finals Competition & Reception. Both of the 2024 CYCLE sophomore delegates are from Harrisburg: Audrey Reedy and KyAnn Langdon. They will both attend the CYCLE Leadership Conference in Jefferson City, this summer.
And four of the ten Youth Tour Finalists were from Harrisburg: Alicia Worden, Aaron Niemeier, Lindsey Burbridge and Glory Whitaker. While none of our Harrisburg students were selected to attend the trip to Washington, D.C, they each received a $500 scholarship for college!
We also brought home to Harrisburg a $200 check for the school, as Boone Electric donates $50 per Youth Tour finalist to their home school. #BulldawgPride
