TEACHER FEATURE TUESDAY: This week’s featured teacher is Mrs. Meghan Sublett. Meghan has been teaching for 22 years and has spent her entire career at Harrisburg Schools!

In addition to the amazing work that she does as the Elementary Title 1 Reading Specialist, Mrs. Sublett also serves on our district Professional Learning Communities Team, district Academic Advisory Cabinet, and elementary Student Success Team. She is also the President of our Community Teacher’s Association, Co-Sponsor of our high school Future Teachers of America Organization, and coaches high school football cheerleading and basketball cheerleading.

Elementary Principal Gabe Burris shared: “Meghan is a valuable member of our team! She provides many different supports to students in all of our grade levels. Mrs. Sublett works closely with our young readers to build confidence, strengthen foundational skills, and create a lifelong love for reading. Meghan also is a co-sponsor of our Grow Your Own Teachers program that works with high school and middle school students interested in the field of education. Her passion for education runs deep! We are lucky she is a Bulldog!”

Thank you Mrs. Sublett for your dedication to your students and to the Harrisburg R-VIII School District. We are so thankful for you! #BulldawgPride

It was a fantastic morning at the 8th Annual Turkey Trot. We started our morning with our 4 year old Preschool classes who did a special warm up stretch with Keller before their race. They all did such a great job and earned Turkey Trot ribbons for their effort! Up next were our elementary and middle school racers. Every single student did a fantastic job running their race at the track and then enjoyed a trip to the concession stand where Walnut & Twine was on site with their delicious muffins, rice krispie treats, and hot cocoa to warm up our athletes!

Congratulations to the top finishers in each age division.

TEACHER FEATURE TUESDAY: This week’s featured teacher is Mr. Clark Chickering. Clark has been working in education since he was in college. He was a TA for Chemistry Labs as an undergrad and then served as a TA in Chemistry Labs again for one year in graduate school. He has been teaching an Adult Sunday School Class for around thirty years. And, after a successful 30 year career as a Chemist and Supervisor, he joined the staff at Harrisburg R-VIII School District in 2021 as a bus driver. He has since added full-time substitute teacher and maintenance to the many hats he wears in our district.

As a substitute teacher, Mr. Chickering guest teaches in all three buildings. It takes a very flexible professional to be able to teach preschool one day and high school the next but Clark manages it with grace and skill. When he is not teaching, you’ll find him continuing service to the district as a bus driver for morning and afternoon routes or assisting with maintenance needs throughout our facilities.

Clark has been married to his wife, Donna, for 37 years. They have two daughters who are graduates of Harrisburg Schools and they have four wonderful grandchildren. He has served as Pastor of Red Rock Church for the past eight years.

We are very fortunate to have someone with Clark’s expertise on staff at Harrisburg School District. Thank you for the many ways you support our students, staff, and patrons every day. #BulldawgPride
